Frontonio Microcósmico Garnacha is a wine made from Grenache from old vineyards located in Épila at 350 metres of altitude. These vineyards are planted on calcareous soils with a clayey layer that allows for good humidity retention of the scarce rainfall of the region. Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard. After a classic vinification, they go through the malolactic fermentation and an ageing of 10 months in concrete deposits. 5% of this wine is aged in 300-litre oak barrels.
Serve at 14-16 °C with stews, rice and meat.
Bodegas Frontonio was created in 2008 by three friends from Aragón, Fernando Mora, aspirant Master of Wine, Mario López, oenologist from Bodegas Borsao, and Francisco Latasa, lawyer and international trade expert. The aim of Bodegas Frontonio is to dignify the area of Valdejalón and its vineyards, mainly planted with old Grenache, and with a continental-Mediterranean climate. In total, they directly manage around 50 hectares, with organic certification since 2017. Most part of the vineyards are located in the surroundings of Épila. They have different ages, exposures, altitudes and soil types. The climate is continental-Mediterranean with scarce rainfall (200-500 l/m2/year), 300 hours of sun per year, and days with a lot of wind, also called "Cierzo". Currently, Bodegas Frontonio makes garage wines in the back room of a small winery of bulk wines. They process takes place with minimum intervention, plot by plot. As a result, we can find excellent wines, authentic and with a lot of character.
